APA’s training and certification is mostly aimed at those wanting qualify as professional paddling guides.

Guiding can be a rewarding, challenging and exciting way of earning a living, either on a full time or part time basis. Most guides in this country are freelance (i.e. not employed by a single company only). Due to the seasonal nature of the paddling industry they combine their paddling guiding with other forms of guiding and often travel to where the work is within Southern Africa.

There are also opportunities for guiding work overseas. Even if guiding is not pursued as an occupation, the knowledge gained through the training is an invaluable life skill.

We also offer APA accredited short courses for recreational/competitive paddlers such as canoeists and adventure racers.
